How CPA licensing works
A certified public accountant is licensed by a state board of accountancy, not nationally, and must hold an active license to practice public accounting or sign audit and attest reports in that state. A license record shows whether the CPA is active and in good standing and when the license expires. Verifying it confirms the person is authorized to do the work you are hiring them for.
